Mural FAQs
- How do I get a mural from an idea to my wall?
When we meet with you, we’ll discuss your ideas, look at examples that have inspired you, take note of the space and begin exploring your options. Following our meeting, we will sketch some ideas to work out the elements, style and scale. Once we achieve a satisfactory direction, we will create a full color scale painting of the proposed mural. Upon approval, work on the mural will begin.
- How much does a mural cost?
Size, location and complexity of the design will generally dictate the cost. The larger and more detailed a mural is, the longer the process takes and the more it costs. Sketches start at a base price of around $150 and up depending on the design concept and the amount of adjustments made. Following sketch approval, a scale color rendering of the mural will be made at a base price of $200. Although there is a charge for the color scale painting of the mural, it will be factored into the price of the mural itself if the job is approved. After this approval, work on the mural can begin.
- Can the mural be cleaned?
In general, acrylic, oil and latex paint are all very durable and light-fast, but heavy cleaning will damage any painted surface. If a mural is in an area where it can get dirty or be touched frequently, a clear seal coat can be added.
- What type of paint do you use?
We generally use a combination of latex and acrylic paints. Occasionally oil paint will be used if needed for the particular style of painting. For exterior surfaces we always use premium exterior grade paint over a sealed and primed surface after which a weather-proof seal coat will be applied.
- What if the wall isn’t smooth?
If the wall is too rough and the style of the mural isn’t too detailed, we can work with the surface. The determination is on a case by case basis. A smooth surface is always best, and three design can easily skim-coat and prime a wall to prepare a suitable surface.
